From Sea to Sand
Diana HOFF, Scotland (632)
Stein HOFF, Norway (633)
It’s difficult to imagine a more united couple. Diana is
Scottish, Stein Norwegian. Both in their sixties, they’ve
been married for 37 years and have spent a good half of their lives
crossing the world’s oceans. Always up for a challenge, they’ve
undertaken some audacious crossings like in 1997 when Stein rowed
across the Atlantic with a team mate. Diana achieved the same feat,
but solo, in 1999. Determined not to be outshined, Stein undertakes
the same solo feat two years later and completes it in 97 days
! As Diana explains with a smile : « he couldn’t stand
the fact I was better than him, that’s all! They’re
now an inseparable couple and have only been apart for the time
it took for each of them to row across the Atlantic.
By a strange turn of events they’ve landed here on the MDS
for the first time this year. The idea of moving over from sea
to sand doesn’t really bother them: “it’s different
but you need a similar mentality”. To prepare for the event,
they quite logically trained… on the snow : « same
as the sand » they reckon. An unflappable couple for sure..
and very nice with it!
