A team of three runners on top
form - despite the distance they’ve
already covered on foot. The raison d’etre for this team?
They are selling the kilometers they run, and giving the proceeds
to MISOLA, a charity set up to give aid to mal-nourished infants
in Burkina Faso, Mali and the Cameroon. Misola is also the name
of the flour distributed by the charity. Made from a mixture
of millet, soya and peanuts, this flour supplements the diet
of breast-fed babies and greatly improves the health of infants
in need in this area of Africa. In practice, this organisation
sets up means of producing misola locally : providing all the
necessary materials aa well as training schemes for the workers.
To raise money, the runners have marketed kilometers, so that
anyone wishing to donate to this cause can buy a kilometer covered
for the modest sum of 10 euros. And, if all three of them finish
the race (and the chances are that they will), they will have
about 7000 euros for sale. “It’s a real source of
motivation for us. When we feel exhausted, we think about the
cause, and that spurs us on.” A beautiful example of humility
and team-spirit given to us by two Normans (Sylvain and Jerome)
and a Parisian (Xavier)…
