If you are running for a charity or to support a humanitarian cause: The Darbaroud team present in the bivouac during the race will inform all associations represented about the 26th event as best they can via the official MDS website. To get the most out of the "portraits" published during the race, those competitors concerned should send DABAROUD a dozen lines on their association as quickly as they can, with a presentation of its objectives, current projects and possibility the association's website address. The Marathon des Sables was Mark Hines' first excursion into the world of ultra-endurance adventure races. With a background far removed from endurance fitness, this book catalogues his training, preparation and participation in his first great race. Whilst the subsequent titles on the Jungle Marathon and Yukon Arctic Ultra clearly demonstrate his own evolution into an accomplished runner, the Marathon des Sables was where it all began.

Jan Vajhøj CHRISTENSEN (DEN-D129) lost two good friends last year to the cancer and have also a close friend who has dying cancer now. Jan Vajhøj have now decide to help Hospice Vendsyssel, where cancer sick people can be the remaining time they have back.
A difficult record to beat!!!
Christian GINTER (FR) is nevertheless the only competitor to have run and finished 22 MDS; i.e. more than 5500 km of desert. He will, of course, be back again in 2010 to celebrate 25 years of the competition.
